At Denny’s. Horseheads, New York. We drove all day, until the night fell and it was too late to go any further. We stopped in a tiny city called Horseheads. The odd name dates back to the US Revolution. A military expedition didn’t go so well as the soldier returned, and a lot of horses died. The native Iroquois re-arranged the skulls as a line longing the road, thus naming the “valley of the horses’ heads”. Today, nothing spectacular about the place, but we found a (not so) cheap motel for the night. On the other side of the road, there was this sad chain restaurant.
