The Steps to Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep. We started our trip in Chiang Mai. Third biggest city of Thailand, far smaller than Bangkok, it’s a pleasant city, surrounded by jungle and mountains. West to the city, there’s this temple on top of the hill. We rent our first scooter of our trip for the day (scooters are incredibly popular in Thailand), so we drove the sinuous road to the hill. In the middle of the jungle, a fearsome Nāga keep the temple safe. 320 steps brings you to the monastery. In spite of the jetlag and the heat, we started our climb. As we reached the top, we heard the monks singing their prayer and the night was falling.
