Feather. Passerelle Debilly, Paris. (lens: 35mm@f1.4) Trying out my new toy at night near the Eiffel Tower.

So, I have a new toy. I sold two of my lenses I rarely used and got a refurbished Nex-5 + 16mm f2.8 kit and a Voigtlander Nokton 35mm f1.4 MC. What can I say about it? It’s lightweight, the Nex sensor is very good (I’d say as good as the 7D sensor), and pretty well built, even though I find the camera’s shutter noise a bit loud, so I need to be smart with external noises about when to trigger. Manual focusing with the screen is reasonably easy to do, even though I’d appreciate a viewfinder. The lens itself isn’t the sharpest I have, but it has character and brings a special something to the picture. The Voigtlander is a full manual lens, and I have similar sensation I had with my dad’s Pentax Super ME. Slower picture taking, more thoughts about the framing I want and the necessity for me to move rather than to use the zoom surely change my approach to photography, and hopefully, for the best.

Back to the picture, as I was shooting Her on the bridge, 3 guys asked if they could take pictures of her too. I realized one of them had a Leica M8.2 and a weird lens I only saw on the Internet: a rare and old Canon 50mm f0.95. After 10 minutes of chatting about technical photographic and nerdy nonsense, he let me mount his lens on my Nex 😀 Well, I’m not sure I’m so crazy about the “dreamy” rendering of the Canon, but I was still pretty happy to try it 🙂
